*** New Beer ***

Rogue Double Dead Guy 750ml:

This potent beer of the dead pours a solid amber with a hint or orange. The head is tall beige and sudsy. The aroma is sweet and malty with caramel and honey tones. The hops come across mainly floral with a touch of fruity apricot. The flavor is smooth despite the 9% and the malt come through as toffee with a hint of nuts and chocolate. The hops are present with some citrus peel and a touch of spice. There is a speck of alcohol twinge at the end but it is not hot and only help dry out the big malt character. Definitely an “A” level brew from the masters at Rogue.

*** Now In Stock ***

Green Flash Imperial IPA 22oz:

This big IPA starts off with an earthy pine resin aroma. The flavor balances well as the bitterness of the piney hop works well with the upstanding but not over sweet caramel / toffee malt. This much malt is needed to help quell the 100 IBUs and the 9% alcohol brings a touch of spiciness to the mix.

Beer Valley Black Flag Stout 22oz:

Man or man this is one of the darkest blackest Imperials I’ve had. Pitch black with a tan head, the carbonation level is rather low but with the high malt and 11% alcohol that is understandable and appreciated. The aroma is of bread, highly roasted malt and bitter chocolate. The flavor is aggressively roasty with a touch of astringency from all of the black patent malt, coffee and a touch of piney hops. The flavor intensity is high and for those who enjoy the stoutest of stouts this one fits the bill. If it were a touch drier I could easily peg this as a Russian Imperial but as it stands I would say that this 11% beauty is an imperial stout of the highest quality. I can not wait to see what else these guys make.

Flying Dog Gonzo Porter 12oz::

This is a most excellent 9% massive Baltic porter. Big and strong with a huge coffee and hop flavor, this inky black Baltic is not as sweet as its Polish and Russian counterparts but is just as strong and aggressive in flavor. What sets it apart is the big grassy hop flavor to go with all of those dark roasted malts. This beer commemorates the death of Hunter S. Thomson with the label done by Ralph Stedman.

*** Russian River Beer ***

Got another small shipment of Russian River in, only two cases of each. Sorry about the out of stocks I’m sure some of you will get. Nothing I can do about it.

Russian River Damnation 750ml:

This Belgian Pale pours a bright yellow with an enormous head that falls very slowly. The aroma is bread/cake in malt with a fruity banana ester. The flavor comes across a bit doughy up front with plenty of fruity pear, spicy pepper, with a light, bright tart hop finish. A very tasty, easy to drink Belgian style.

Russian River Blind Pig 500ml:

The “Blind Pig” is R.R.’s standard IPA. Even though it is aggressively bitter there is more than enough flavor to tie it all together very well. It pours a clear golden with a big dense head. The aroma is all out hops with enormous lemon, pine and tangy fruit. The flavor is bitter up front with a big pine and lemon flavor with some apricot, bergamot, and grapefruit thrown in. The finish is big, lingering hop bitter. This is an aggressive IPA but like I said the flavors tie together very well and make it a damn fine IPA.

Russian River Pliny The Elder 500ml:

Deep golden with a bit of haze. The head pours thick and foamy. Its persistence is good and there is even a touch of lace. The aroma is of floral and resinous hops. The flavor has an oily, fruity hop note that is nectarine and pine with a tickle of caramel and nut in the malt. The finish has a good lingering bitterness but the main focus of this beer is the hop flavor. Not as bitter as many double IPAs but more flavorful than most. This is one of the heist rated double IPAs out there. I whish I had more of these to offer you so please bare with the inevitable “Out Of Stock”s we will see.

Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin 22 oz:

Now this is what I call a pumpkin ale. Why, you may ask??? Because it tastes like pumpkin, that’s why. Some pumpkin ales that are out taste of nothing but cinnamon and clove. This one is brewed with both the pumpkin flesh and the seeds and is easily THE best pumpkin ales I have tried.

This, the best pumpkin ale in existence, pours a rich copper with a tint of brown. It has an easy spice aroma of cinnamon and allspice. The flavor is wonderfully rich and smooth. Pale, and caramel malt flavors with a deep pumpkin fruit. The spices of ginger and nutmeg comes through and a clove that is small and very well placed. A+

Wolavers Pumpkin Ale 12oz:

Glowing orange amber color, it pours with two fingers of head. Light tart and pumpkin fruity with spicy clove hints

Lakefront Pumpkin Lager 12oz:

Copper in color with a medium head that falls quickly. The aroma is of pie spices and a pale barley malt. The flavor is light cinnamon with a touch of clove. Light body and clean finish makes it a refreshing pumpkin beer.

Avery Ale to the Chief 22oz:

This copper orange brew pours with a sticky medium sized head that leaves plenty of lace. Big hoppy aroma with piney, leafy, and lemony hops. The flavor has a caremel malting up front with a fruity apricot, pineapple hit and resiny, grapefruit hop notes. The bitterness is strong but not harsh and mostly in the back.

Greens Quest Gluten Free Triple 500ml:

Pale amber in color with a slight haze, it pours with lots of fizzy carbonation but little head. The aroma is lightly grainy with a flippantly sharp fruitiness. The flavor is sweet with an apple grape tartness.

De Molen Rasputin 750ml:

This massive 11% stout pours a very dark brown with a big, creamy, tan head. The aroma and flavors are roasty of course with a mix chocolate, dark fruit, licorice and a well-integrated earthiness. The body and mouth feel is full, creamy and delicious.

Dupont Moinette Blond 750ml:

Hazy yellow in color MASSIVE rocky head that leave a true lacing down the glass. The aroma is spicy with coriander, pepper and a touch of clove. The yeast brings the traditional Sasion earthiness along with a complex but not overly strong fruity component. The hops a light and grassy and the finish is dusty and dry.

Jerome Golden Archangel 750ml:

This tasty 9% Belgian style from Argentina pours a crystal orange yellow with two finger of foam. The aroma is fruity and yeasty with apple and raspberry. The malt flavor is bready and the yeast / hop is fruity. The body is light and crisp

Leinenkugels Sunset Wheat 12oz:

This wit style has a pale straw color and a brilliant white head. The aroma is bright with lemon and spice. The flavor has touch of the wit tartness and fruit but a milder rounder finish. The body is light and refreshing.

*** New Beers ***

Norrebro Little Korkny 600ml:

This Danish barley wine style ale pours a rich brown with a tint of red. The head is thin but that is to be expected from the low carbonation. The aromas are of dark fruit (fig, plum) chocolate and sweet malt. The flavor comes across as toffee and caramel with ripe fruit and toasty malt. The full and heavy mouth feel makes for a fine creamy sipping brew and that is backed up by it being 12.5%.

Norrebro Old Odense 600ml:

This gruit beer pours a light orange color with a touch of haze with a small off white head. The aroma is of tart berry and citrus fruit with a mélange of spices. The flavor is herbal and spicy up front then moves into pale malt and maple. It does have a tart hit in the finish but is still quite smooth. This non-hopped spice brew is unique and tasty.

Here is an excerpt from the Shelton Brothers Import site.

Nørrebro Bryghus Launches Old Odense Ale – A Unique Beer Created in a Unique Way!

It is with great pride and pleasure that Nørrebro Bryghus hereby announces that Old Odense Ale – a truly unique, challenging and charming beer, created as a joint brewing project between Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head and Nørrebro Bryghus – is now available through selected outlets in the US.

The Beer

Old Odense Ale is a 7.5 ABV beer that defies any known beer style or category. On the label we describe it as “Ale brewed with maple syrup and herbs”. But this says precious little about this bright and copper coloured beer with a very sparse and fragile head. The aroma is extremely complex and spicy, with notes of anis, tobacco, brettanomyces, leather and dried fruits. The body is rich and with a delicate sweetness that balances the sour tartness, making it far more accessible than a Belgian lambic, which would be the only well known style to which one could possibly compare Old Odense Ale.

The Creation

Following an initial contact between Sam Calagione and us at Nørrebro Bryghus, we agreed that Sam would visit Nørrebro Bryghus and do a guest brew in June 2007, and when we started discussing which beer to brew, Sam was quite adamant that it be an old, traditional Danish beer style. We therefore unearthed the obscure ‘Odense Old Style Ale’ web page with a translation of a 15th century pre-hop era gruit ale recipe from the town of Odense, and the process of converting this into something that might be brewed on a modern brewing system commenced. Not an easy task, which this list of ingredients might illustrate: Pale and dark barley malt, oats, fine syrup (in our translation: maple syrup form Sam’s dad’s farm in Massachusetts), smoked dark syrup, fir branches and fir bark, wood sage, hyssop, blackthorn berries, woodruff and star spice.

The actual brewing of this beer was as fun as it was crazy and nerve-racking – stuff for an entire article (that actually has been written, but is yet to be published). Suffice to say here, that the amazing souring of the beer, that happened within 48 hours of fermentation, must be due to the potent ‘herbal juice’ hand squeezed by our honoured guest brewer from the herbs in the 7 huge gauze bags, and added to the wort kettle during the boil.

How do I get hold of ‘Old Odense Ale’?

Old Odense Ale is available in the US through our importer, Shelton Brothers of Belchertown, MA (www.sheltonbrothers.com). And don’t worry – the FDA has received samples for analysis for toxic substances (!) and has given us the green light to sell the beer in the US.

Who and what is Nørrebro Bryghus?

In September 2003 Nørrebro Bryghus opened its combined brewery, restaurant and bar in a former metal workshop close to downtown Copenhagen. The mission from day one was to contribute to a new evolution and expansion of the Danish beer culture. The Nørrebro Bryghus concept is based on creating the total experience – great beers, modern beer cuisine, excellent service in a unique ambience surrounded by award winning design and contemporary architecture.

As it is the vision of Nørrebro Bryghus to supply quality beer to any venue where the customers expect the very best in craft beer, we launched our beers on bottles and kegs in 2006. Export began in 2007 with Sweden, Finland and the USA as the first markets importing Nørrebro Bryghus beers. As the first Danish craft brewery, Nørrebro Bryghus won two bronze medals at the 2008 World Beer Cup® in San Diego.
